# Cognitive accessibility

> Reference definitions for the conditions that shape how a document or context is presented to the person taking it in.

The included cognitive-accessibility definitions cover conditions that shape how documents or context are presented for knowledge work. They are for humans and agents who present documents or context for knowledge work, and the humans who take in that documentation or context.

They leave out selecting document sections, asking readers for answers, assessing or labelling cognition, and clinical or compliance claims. They also leave out factor values named by diagnosis, level, cognitive style, imagery or measured ability, and perceptual and language adaptations, including larger print, braille, sign language, translation and reduced motion for vestibular discomfort.

[Cognitive Accessibility Research](https://github.com/SterlingJF/knowledge-bus/blob/main/research/research-cognitive-accessibility-2026-10-17.md) gives the corpus, counts, and sources behind the definitions.
